“The BrightBytes Student Success module leverages historical data and research-based predictive analytics to determine a student’s risk of not meeting the key milestones along the K-20 continuum.” (Source)

Just prior to a large undertaking to reconstruct the Early Warning module into the Student Success module, the UX team spearheaded user testing around the school user’s experience in the product. The school user -- such as a counselor, vice principal, etc. -- is often concerned with the risk prediction of the students in their charge, tracking their movement and beginning interventions where necessary. I focused our testing plan around usability heuristics since we wanted to broadly test the module overall. Specifically, I designed a set of interview questions around NN/g’s Usability Heuristics. This round of user testing sparked a rise of my incorporation of usability heuristics throughout my user testing methods.

After facilitating, moderating, and and note-taking the remote interviews with our four school user participants, I analyzed and summarized the results into the report to expedite the UX team’s need to immediately employ the findings in the wireframing of the updated product. Our relaunched Student Success module was recognized with the Best in Show award at ISTE.
