“The BrightBytes Early Insights suite provides education organizations with a comprehensive system to ensure students in need of extra support are connected to the most effective programs to drive success. Working in concert, the Student Success and Intervention modules allow educators intervene early, increase referral follow-through, and track progress at the student level.” (Source)
An essential piece of the effectiveness of the Early Insights suite is the student profile’s calendar and planning meeting page. When tasked to design these features, the major priority was thinking through how to seamlessly integrate the two modules together -- as most users have access to both -- while simultaneously planning for users who had only one of the two. The calendar contains events for each intervention activity, and whenever risk prediction updates, an event is marked for that, too. Planning meetings were designed as an immediate follow-up to the calendar design, to help users capture when they met to discuss the student’s progress in interventions, such as one would in an MTSS (multi-tiered support system) program.
To provide the right architecture for the needs at hand, I pointed us in the direction of employing a pattern we had used before, utilizing buttons placed in the header that provide a way for the user to view either the risk prediction data or the calendar and planning meeting data. Both buttons appear in the header when the user is on the Profile tab of the student’s profile, as a way to reinforce that the modules come together to form the rich profile of the student.
